David Gilmour - On an Island (2006)

On an Island is the third solo album by Pink Floyd member David Gilmour. It was released in the UK on 6 March 2006, Gilmour's 60th birthday, and in the US the following day. It was his first solo album in twenty two years since 1984's About Face and twelve years since 1994's Pink Floyd album The Division Bell.

The Tolkien Ensemble -The Lord of the Rings - The Complete Songs & Poems - CD 1 - The Fellowship of the Ring

The Tolkien Ensemble (founded in 1995) is a Danish ensemble which aims to create "the world's first complete musical interpretation of the poems and songs from The Lord of the Rings". They published four CDs from 1997 to 2005, in which all the poems and songs of The Lord of the Rings are set to music. The project was approved by both the Tolkien family and HarperCollinsPublishers. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark gave permission to use her illustrations in the CD layout.

Permanent members are Caspar Reiff and Peter Hall (composition, singing and guitar), Signe Asmussen (singing), Øyvind Ougaard(accordion), Katja Nielsen (double-bass), and Morten Ryelund Sørensen (conductor and violin).
The Ensemble has toured Europe in 2007, combining their own works with soundtrack pieces from Howard Shore's soundtrack to the film trilogy as well as live narration by Christopher Lee.

New York Dolls – New York Dolls 1973

New York Dolls is the debut studio album by American hard rock band the New York Dolls. It was released on July 27, 1973, byMercury Records. The band formed in 1971 and developed a following while playing regularly in lower Manhattan. However, they were unappealing to record companies because of their onstage cross-dressing and vulgarity, while most record producers were reluctant to work with them. For shock value, the band was photographed in exaggerated drag on the album cover.

After signing a two-record deal with Mercury, the New York Dolls recorded their self-titled first album at The Record Plant in New York City with producer Todd Rundgren, who was known for his sophisticated pop sound and held a lukewarm opinion of the band. They incorporated carefree rock and roll and Brill Building pop influences in the album's hard rock songs, while the lyrics were written mostly by lead singer David Johansen and touched on themes such as urban youth, teen alienation, adolescent romance, and authenticity.

New York Dolls received widespread acclaim from critics when it was first released but sold poorly and had a divisive effect on listeners. The band toured the United States to promote the record, but they were difficult to market and developed a reputation for rock-star excesses. Despite its commercial failure, the album was an influential precursor to the 1970s punk rock movement and has since been named in various publications as one of the greatest debut records in rock music and one of the greatest albums of all time.

Πριν ένα χρόνο στις 10/9/2015 ήμασταν σ'αυτή τη συναυλία μαζί με το Θάνο!
Φέτος τον αποχαιρετούμε πίνοντας μια γουλιά στην υγειά του...
μείναμε εδώ να ακόυμε τις μελωδίες που μας χάρισε αυτή η ψυχή.

The Strawbs - Grave New World (U.k 1972)

 


The 5th (or 6th if you inc Sandy & the strawbs) album By The Strawbs, arguably one of the most interesting and original UK folk bands of the late 60's they did very little Trad material unlike their folky contemoperies. This album was the first after Rick Wakeman left which you would think would be a hugh loss and I suppose in a way it was but as this album is arguably one of their best, obviously it was not that big a tradgedy. They introduced some very weird and cosmic effects on some of the songs and all in this album is a masterpiece!

 As a point of interest it was an incredible tri fold LP cover and the picture on the inside is absolutely amazing. I had it pinned on my wall from about 19 too 24 lol I love the Strawbs and have been lucky enough to have seen them about 15 times they have toured allot in the last 4 or 5 years as an acoustic trio or electric 5 piece the acoustic shows are lovely but I have to say if you are lucky enough to catch an electric show when there is good sound system and its a standing venue then its utterly mind blowing I damn nearly did my Knee in at one gig lol! and i'm only 36 so about half the age of most of the average strawbs crowd. All this tells me is the damn hippys have been way too slack in turning the younger generation on to epic late 60's bands like the strawbs its a crying shame.
That's just a long way of saying check out the strawbs live people I need someone to dance with.

Babe Ruth - First Base (1972)

Babe Ruth are a rock music group, primarily active through the 1970s, from Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. Their characteristically 'heavy' sound is marked by powerful vocals from Janita (Jenny) Haan and full arrangements by Alan Shacklock. They are acknowledged as having more commercial success in North America than in their home country.

The album went gold in Canada, sold well in the US, but had disappointing sales by comparison in the UK. The song "The Mexican" has been covered and remixed many times. Among them, it was covered in 1984 by John "Jellybean" Benitez with vocals by Janita Haan. "The Mexican" was also mixed into the third track of The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One by Liam Howlett of The Prodigy in 1999.

Dream Theater is an American Grammy Award-nominated progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty byJohn Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy while they attended Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts. They subsequently dropped out of their studies to concentrate further on the band that would ultimately become Dream Theater. Though a number of lineup changes followed, the three original members remained together along with James LaBrie and Jordan Rudess until September 8, 2010, when Portnoy left the band. In October 2010, the band held auditions for a drummer to replace Portnoy. Mike Mangini was announced as the new permanent drummer on April 29,
