Costis Christodoulou was born in 1983 (May, 18) in Athens, Greece and grew up in Sparta. His first thoughts of being a musician begun after listening to “Black or White”, by Michael Jackson, back in 1992. But it was after listening to Pink Floyd’s P.U.L.S.E live recording and Vangelis’ “Direct” album, in 1995, that he took The Decision. He started with music by playing Greek traditional songs (Rembetika -the “Greek Blues”, as they say…). Later, he continued by practicing classical piano and, at the same time, being a member in several local rock groups. In 2001, after finishing school, he moved to Athens, where he first started taking jazz piano lessons under Stavros Lantsias. It was the same year that he started working as a professional musician, earning money to pay for the piano lessons. One year later, he was accepted to study in the Music Department of the Ionian University (Corfu, GR), where he took lessons with George Kontrafouris (jazz piano), Dimos Dimitriadis (jazz improvisation) and Lambis Vassiliadis (classical piano). He graduated from Ionian University with a BA diploma in Jazz Performance and Composition. From January 2007 until May 2008, he moved to Helsinki, Finland, to study at the Jazz Department of the Sibelius Academy, where he had lessons of Jazz Piano (Jarmo Savolainen/Jim Beard), Arranging for Big Band (Antti Rissanen), Arranging for Smaller Ensemble (Jarno Kukkonen) and Aesthetics of Jazz (Jukis Uotila).Currently, since September 2008, he is living and working in Athens as a jazz musician, playing, teaching and recording. He just finished his first personal album, called “The Thing”, containing exclusively original compositions. He has taken part in several jazz festivals in Greece and abroad.
